The Whitby collision that closed Thickson Road North south of Highway 407 on November 4 involved five vehicles and seven occupants, Durham police have now confirmed.
One female was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Four other occupants went to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to the November 5 release.
Police release details after reopening
The new account adds injury severity and the scale of the collision to the earlier road-closure and reopening notices. It does not announce a renewed closure: police say the roadways are open.
Officers from Central West Division responded at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4.
Police say a northbound vehicle lost control, crossed into the southbound lane and struck another vehicle. Further collisions then involved traffic travelling in both directions.
The release does not identify the injured people, give their ages or announce charges. The cause remains under investigation; the statement should not be read as a finding about speed, impairment or another factor that police have not established.
Witnesses asked to contact investigators
The Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene. Thickson Road was closed for several hours while investigators gathered evidence.
Anyone with information about the Whitby collision is asked to contact Detective Constable Tymcio through the Traffic Services Branch at 905-579-1520, extension 5256, or toll-free at 1-888-579-1520.
The location is south of Highway 407 on Thickson Road North. The release does not describe a collision on Highway 407 itself.
