North Durham athletes Kyler Lauder and Travis Altmann are representing Canada in two international youth competitions, putting Uxbridge and Seagrave connections on the national sporting stage.
The Uxbridge Cosmos highlighted the pair in a November 4 report. Official hockey results and Rugby Canada’s team announcement confirm their roles, while also providing more precise details about the competitions.
Lauder scores in Canada Red victory
Lauder scored in Canada Red’s 6–4 win over the United States at the U17 World Challenge in Oakville on Monday, November 2.
Hockey Canada’s game summary places his goal at 6:58 of the third period, with assists from Tanner Adams and Landon Roulston. It broke a 4–4 tie, before Kash Kwajah added Canada’s sixth goal on a power play.
The official result lists two goals apiece for Kwajah and Drew Bate. Canada Red was outshot 41–36, and goaltender Owen Loftus made 37 saves.
The game was played at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Lauder’s Uxbridge connection is identified in the local Cosmos report; the official scoring record confirms his contribution to the Canadian win.
Seagrave player on Youth Olympic rugby squad
Travis Altmann, listed by Rugby Canada as a Seagrave player with Oshawa Vikings RFC, was selected for Canada’s 12-player U17 men’s sevens squad for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
Rugby Canada’s October 21 announcement scheduled the rugby tournament for November 1–3 in Senegal. It identified Germany, Senegal and South Africa as Canada’s pool opponents and Greg Hedgecoe as head coach.
This is Canada’s first men’s appearance in Youth Olympic rugby sevens, according to the national federation. This report confirms Altmann’s selection; it does not claim a medal or match result that has not been independently checked.
The two North Durham athletes are competing in different sports and countries. Their local connections and official national-team records are the basis for this community sports update.
