Pickering voter turnout had reached 14.64 per cent of eligible electors as of October 24, according to a new City of Pickering update ahead of Monday’s municipal election.
The figure is an advance participation snapshot, not a final election result. It does not identify how residents voted or indicate which candidates are leading.
The city published the percentage on its verified Instagram account. Daily Durham subsequently reported the update on October 25.
Online voting continues through Monday
Pickering’s official election page confirms that online voting remains available until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26. Residents can use a phone, tablet or computer with internet access, together with their Voter Information Package and full date of birth, the city says.
The city directs electors to its online voting website. Residents should use their own voting credentials and follow the city’s official instructions.
Weekend assistance available
For residents who need internet access, help voting online or assistance with voting credentials, the city’s update lists Voter Assistance Centres open over the weekend from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at:
- Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, 1867 Valley Farm Road;
- Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre, 2365 Sixth Concession Road;
- George Ashe Library & Community Centre, 470 Kingston Road;
- Dr Nelson F. Tomlinson Community Centre, 4941 Old Brock Road; and
- West Shore Community Centre, 1011 Bayly Street.
Paper-ballot voting is available only on election day, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Weekend help with online voting should not be confused with an opportunity to cast a paper ballot before Monday.
The newly released Pickering voter turnout percentage adds a local participation measure to previously announced voting arrangements. It should not be read as a prediction of the final turnout.
