The Oshawa airport exercise scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, October 27 will bring emergency responders together for a simulated incident, rather than an actual emergency.
The City of Oshawa advised community members and airport users of the planned exercise in an October 22 notice. It will take place at Oshawa Executive Airport in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations.
Residents may see more fire and emergency response vehicles around Keith Ross Drive to the west, Taunton Road to the north and Airport Boulevard to the east during the exercise. The notice identifies those roads as the surrounding area where the increased presence may be visible; it does not announce a road closure.
Airport staff, Oshawa Fire Services, Region of Durham Paramedic Services and Durham Regional Police Services are listed as participating organizations. The joint exercise is intended to reinforce emergency procedures and help responders prepare to support people at the airport and in the community.
The City gives the morning as the exercise period but does not specify an exact starting time, duration or detailed scenario. Residents should not assume that an emergency vehicle attending the planned drill means an incident has occurred.
Questions about the Oshawa airport exercise can be directed to Oshawa 311. The City thanked the public for supporting this and future preparedness exercises.
