An Ajax fatal pedestrian collision is under investigation after a 76-year-old man died following a fail-to-remain crash at Harwood Avenue North and Ringer Road.
Durham Regional Police announced the death in an October 22 release. Officers are asking anyone with video or information about the October 17 collision to help investigators establish what happened.
Pedestrian was crossing Harwood Avenue North
According to police, West Division officers responded at about 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. The man was walking within the crosswalk across Harwood Avenue North when a white 2014 Dodge Ram pickup struck him.
Police say the pickup did not remain at the scene. The vehicle and its 69-year-old female driver were located shortly afterwards.
The pedestrian was initially believed to have minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. His condition later worsened, and he was transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he died.
Investigators request video and information
The DRPS Collision Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances. Police have not announced a cause or charges in the release, and the man’s identity was not provided.
Anyone with cellphone, dashcam or surveillance footage, or other information about the Ajax fatal pedestrian collision, is asked to contact Detective Constable Daniels at 1-888-579-1520, extension 5226.
Durham Radio News separately reported the death on October 22. The investigation remains open; the fact that a driver was located should not be read as an announcement of a charge or a finding of responsibility.
