A Scugog Line 2 closure will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 26, as crews replace a culvert roughly 1.35 kilometres east of Highway 7/12.
The Township of Scugog says the closure covers the section between Old Simcoe Road and Diamond Side Road. Local traffic will be maintained, but vehicles will not be allowed to pass through the construction zone.
Work expected to take about two weeks
Northern Mat & Bridge has been contracted to install a prefabricated steel modular bridge in place of the culvert. The township expects installation to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting, including paving the bridge approaches.
The contractor is expected to mobilize on October 23, ahead of the October 26 closure. Mobilization and the start of the through-traffic closure are therefore different dates.
The municipality says the prefabricated structure permits a quicker installation and a lower price than would otherwise be required. Its notice does not give a dollar value for the project or a firm reopening date.
Local access does not permit travel through the site
Drivers planning to cross this section of Line 2 should account for the construction rather than assume the local-access provision provides a route through it. The Scugog Line 2 closure specifically prohibits travel through the work zone.
The October 20 notice directs residents to the township’s Traffic Watch Map for information about ongoing projects. Motorists should check the municipality’s current notice for changes, particularly because the estimated construction period depends on weather.
