A new petition is asking Ontario to build a Highway 412 Rossland Road exit and study ways to reduce congestion in Ajax and across Durham Region.
Ajax MPP Rob Cerjanec launched the petition, arguing that a new interchange could improve traffic flow and reduce pressure on Lake Ridge Road.
Petition asks province to build interchange
The petition calls on the provincial government to move forward with an interchange connecting Highway 412 and Rossland Road. Cerjanec says the connection was approved through the Highway 407 East Environmental Assessment Study but was deferred.
In addition to the interchange, the petition asks Ontario to conduct a traffic study, identify bottlenecks and implement measures intended to improve the flow of vehicles on Highway 401 through Ajax and the wider Durham Region.
A petition is a request for government action and does not mean the project has received funding, a construction schedule or final approval to proceed now. No cost estimate or start date was included in the report.
Lake Ridge Road traffic cited
Supporters argue that a Rossland Road connection could offer another route to Highway 412 and ease pressure on nearby roads. Any interchange project would still require provincial planning, engineering, budgeting and construction decisions.
Residents can review the petition through the link provided by the MPP and decide whether to add their names. The petition also broadens its request beyond the proposed exit by seeking a regional traffic review.
The Highway 412 Rossland Road exit proposal is the subject of the petition; it is not an announced construction project. Future decisions would come from Ontario’s transportation planning and budget process.
