McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home will temporarily operate from Mount Lawn Funeral Home after a September 7 fire caused extensive damage to its downtown Oshawa building.
The funeral home’s King Street East location had operated since 1933. Oshawa Fire Services described the building as a total loss, and demolition of the remaining structure is underway.
Kim Juchau, a manager at Mount Lawn, said there were no decedents in the building when the fire occurred. All cremated remains were securely recovered and transferred to Mount Lawn, and no injuries were reported.
Services to continue at Mount Lawn
Previously scheduled arrangements and funeral services are expected to continue without interruption at Mount Lawn Funeral Home. Families with appointments should confirm the location and any updated instructions directly with the funeral home.
The relocation is a substantial operational update following the fire. McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam has served Durham since 1853 and had been based at 152 King Street East for more than 90 years.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation in the initial reporting. This update concerns the recovery of cremated remains and continuity of services; it does not change the earlier finding that the downtown building sustained a total loss.
