Lakeview Park renewal work has moved into its third and final phase, bringing a new round of pathway, accessibility and structural improvements to the eastern side of Oshawa’s largest park.

The City of Oshawa says construction began during the week of September 7 and is expected to continue until late fall 2026. The work area includes the section of the waterfront park around the Oshawa Museum and the beachfront.

Visitors can expect temporary disruptions while crews complete the remaining improvements. The city is asking park users to follow posted signs and detours around active work areas.

What is included in the final phase

The third phase will add asphalt paths linking the picnic shelter and gazebo to the north parking lot. A new concrete route will also improve access to the beachfront washrooms.

Other additions include new benches and two asphalt pads intended for portable washrooms. Those pads will be located near the beach volleyball courts and beside the south parking lot, according to the city.

Crews will also carry out general structural repairs at several familiar park features. The list includes two lookout structures, the gazebo, the eastern beach shade structure and Mandela Point.

The improvements are designed to make it easier for residents and visitors to move between parking, gathering areas and waterfront amenities. The work also addresses maintenance needs at structures that experience heavy seasonal use.

Earlier Lakeview Park work is complete

The city says the western parkland and waterfront trail portions of the broader renewal project have already been completed. Accessibility upgrades at Jubilee Pavilion and the gazebo are also finished.

Those completed sections mean the latest construction is not the start of a new standalone project. It is the remaining portion of the same staged renewal. By concentrating the work in phases, the city has been able to advance improvements in one area while reopening completed sections for public use.

With the final phase now underway, construction has shifted to the eastern portion of the park. The project schedule places completion later this fall, although outdoor construction timelines can be affected by weather and site conditions.

Lakeview Park is a major destination on Oshawa’s Lake Ontario waterfront, combining beaches, trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, historic buildings and community gathering spaces. The park is also home to the Oshawa Museum’s historic houses.

Residents planning a visit during construction should allow for changes to normal walking routes and keep clear of fenced or signed work zones. The city has not announced a full park closure, and its notice describes temporary disruptions connected with the project.

The announcement does not provide a day-by-day construction schedule. Conditions may therefore vary between visits as crews move among pathway, seating and repair locations. People who require a particular accessible route should pay close attention to onsite directions when they arrive.

The final phase continues a multi-stage renewal intended to update aging park infrastructure while improving access to popular waterfront facilities. Once the eastern work is finished, the project will have addressed pathways and public amenities across both sides of the park.
