Uxbridge Junior Optimists is inviting young people to take a more active role in their community, with a local youth group that combines service, teamwork and a chance to share ideas.
In a November 4 Uxbridge Cosmos interview, Optimist member Miranda Sarosi said the club is seeking participants in Grades 5 to 8. She described the programme as a way for young people to have a voice in local community life.
Monthly meetings at Game Juice Café
The Optimist Club’s own website confirms that its Junior Optimist leadership group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Game Juice Café.
The Cosmos reports that the meetings run from 4 to 5 p.m. and include hands-on activities, group-building exercises and occasional movie nights. Families should confirm current arrangements with the club before attending.
Sarosi said the junior group began in June and is still developing. Possible service activities include helping seniors with snow shovelling, rather than simply attending meetings.
Young people help set priorities
One concern raised by participants is the need for creative space where young artists and musicians can develop their interests, according to the interview.
The parent Optimist Club was chartered in January 1969 and supports a range of youth-focused initiatives in Uxbridge. Its current website identifies the Junior Optimist group as one of its own community projects.
