The next Durham PA Day is Friday, November 13, when elementary and secondary students in the Durham District School Board and Durham Catholic District School Board will have no regular classes.
Both boards list the date in their approved 2026–27 calendars. A current DurhamRegion.com reminder brings the upcoming three-day weekend to families’ attention.
A day for staff learning and planning
A professional activity day is not an extra statutory holiday. School staff use these days for designated learning, planning and other professional responsibilities while students are away from regular classes.
The DDSB’s November 13 outline includes elementary reporting and communication with families, along with a multi-theme professional learning day for secondary educators.
The Catholic board also identifies November 13 as applying to both elementary and secondary schools. Families should follow their own school’s messages for details about interviews, reporting or any separate activities.
Plan for the November 13 closure
The Durham PA Day affects students across both boards, including families in Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa and Whitby. Parents and caregivers may need to arrange supervision around the Friday closure.
This notice is about the boards’ regular classroom calendars. It does not mean that every independently operated child-care service, community programme or recreation facility is closed.
Families considering an activity should check its registration, hours and availability directly. Regular classes resume after the weekend, subject to any school-specific notice.
The official board links below are the reference for the PA day. They also contain later dates for the school year; this article does not repeat secondary calendar details that differ from the boards’ own current information.
