An Uxbridge motorcycle crash has left a 56-year-old rider with serious, life-altering injuries after a motorcycle and pickup truck collided at Regional Road 47 and Uxbridge Concession Road 2.
Durham Regional Police said officers from North Division were called to the rural intersection at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8.
Investigators reported that a Yamaha motorcycle was travelling east on Regional Road 47 while a grey Toyota Tacoma was travelling north on Uxbridge Concession Road 2 when the vehicles collided.
Rider taken to Toronto-area trauma hospital
The 56-year-old man riding the motorcycle was taken to a Toronto-area trauma hospital. Police described his injuries as serious and life-altering and said he remained in stable condition when the public release was issued September 9.
The Toyota driver, a 56-year-old woman, remained at the scene and co-operated with officers, according to police. No charges have been announced.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended to examine the scene. Police said the cause of the collision remains under investigation and did not identify a contributing factor.
Investigation remains open
Police releases and a follow-up report from Durham Post agree on the intersection, approximate time, direction of travel and vehicles involved. The public information does not state which vehicle had the right of way, whether speed was a factor, or whether investigators expect to lay charges.
Those questions remain part of the ongoing investigation. Residents should avoid drawing conclusions about responsibility while collision investigators review physical evidence and any available video.
The intersection connects rural roads in the northern part of Durham Region. Investigations involving serious injuries can require road measurements, vehicle examinations, witness interviews and video review before police determine what occurred.
Police seek video and witnesses
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the Uxbridge motorcycle crash or has relevant cellphone, dashcam or surveillance video to contact Detective Constable Daniels of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520, extension 5226.
Anonymous information may be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
Drivers with footage from Regional Road 47 or Uxbridge Concession Road 2 around 4:10 p.m. on September 8 should preserve the original recording and provide it directly to investigators rather than posting identifying material publicly.
Durham police released the confirmed collision details on September 9. No further update on the rider’s condition had been published by the service at the time of writing.
