A Whitby pool closure will cancel all aquatic programs at the Anne Ottenbrite Pool on Tuesday, September 8, while scheduled maintenance is completed.
The Town of Whitby says the pool at Iroquois Park Sports Centre, located at 500 Victoria Street West, will be inaccessible for the full day. Swimming lessons, drop-in swims and every other aquatic activity scheduled in the pool are cancelled during the shutdown.
Regular pool programming is expected to resume on Wednesday, September 9.
What visitors need to know
The notice applies specifically to the Anne Ottenbrite Pool. The town has not announced a full closure of Iroquois Park Sports Centre, but anyone planning to use another part of the complex should check the municipal schedule before travelling.
People registered for an aquatic program on September 8 should not attend that session. The municipal notice does not identify the type of maintenance being performed or announce a replacement location for cancelled programs.
The one-day closure comes immediately after the Labour Day weekend. Visitors should therefore pay close attention to the date shown in online schedules and any notices posted at the recreation centre.
Programming scheduled to resume Wednesday
Subject to the maintenance work being completed as planned, the town expects normal aquatic programming to return September 9. No extended interruption was announced with the September 4 notice.
Residents can consult the Town of Whitby’s swimming page for current drop-in schedules, program information and any later service updates. Checking before leaving home is advisable if a visit depends on pool access.
Iroquois Park Sports Centre is a large municipal recreation complex that also contains arenas and other activity spaces. Those areas were not identified as part of this Whitby pool closure.
