The Durham Weather Forecast for Tuesday, Aug. 18 calls for another warm summer day before conditions turn wetter later in the evening, with showers and a risk of thunderstorms expected across the region.
Durham Region is expected to begin the day under mainly sunny skies, with temperatures around 15 C during the early morning before climbing steadily through the afternoon.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a daytime high of approximately 27 C across Durham and several other parts of southern Ontario.
Humidity will make conditions feel warmer, with the humidex expected to reach between 30 and 32 C in some areas.
Mainly Sunny Start Across Durham
Tuesday morning is expected to remain generally pleasant across Durham Region.
Residents heading to work, running errands or planning outdoor activities should see mainly sunny skies through much of the first half of the day.
Temperatures will rise quickly from the mid-teens during the morning toward the upper 20s by afternoon.
The warm and humid conditions continue the summer weather pattern seen across southern Ontario earlier in the week.
However, the forecast suggests the stable conditions will not last throughout the day.
Clouds Expected Around Midday
Cloud cover is expected to increase around noon.
Winds could reach approximately 20 km/h, although no major wind warning is included in the forecast.
The increasing cloudiness will mark the beginning of a weather transition that is expected to continue through the evening.
While the afternoon itself is not expected to be dominated by rain, residents with outdoor plans later Tuesday may want to keep an eye on changing conditions.
Showers and Thunderstorm Risk Tuesday Night
The biggest change in the Durham Weather Forecast is expected later Tuesday evening.
Skies may briefly clear early in the evening before becoming partly cloudy again.
There is then a 60 per cent chance of showers late in the evening and overnight.
Environment Canada also indicates there is a risk of thunderstorms during that period.
The overnight temperature in Durham Region is expected to remain mild, with lows generally around 17 to 18 C.
Residents who are planning evening travel, outdoor sports or other activities may want to check for updated weather statements before heading out.
Wednesday Could Stay Wet
The unsettled weather may continue into Wednesday.
The forecast currently calls for another 60 per cent chance of rain, with the daytime high reaching approximately 26 C.
A much cooler overnight period is expected Wednesday night, when temperatures could drop to approximately 12 C.
That would mark a noticeable change from the humid nighttime conditions expected Tuesday.
Warm Weather Continues Before Cooler Night
Tuesday’s daytime conditions should still feel very much like summer.
A high near 27 C combined with humidex values in the low 30s may make the afternoon feel warmer than the actual air temperature.
Anyone spending significant time outdoors should stay hydrated and take breaks from prolonged heat, particularly during the warmest part of the afternoon.
The weather story will shift later in the day as cloud cover increases and the possibility of rain and thunderstorms returns.
Durham Residents Should Monitor Changing Conditions
The Durham Weather Forecast highlights a relatively calm daytime period followed by more unsettled conditions at night.
As with all thunderstorm forecasts, the exact timing and location of storms can change as weather systems develop.
Residents should monitor updated Environment Canada forecasts and any watches or warnings that may be issued if conditions become more favourable for stronger thunderstorms.
For now, Durham Region can expect a mostly sunny and warm Tuesday, followed by a wetter late evening and overnight period with a 60 per cent chance of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms.
