Oshawa Civic Holiday hours will affect municipal offices, waste collection, recreation facilities and several regional services on Monday, August 3. Oshawa observes the date as McLaughlin Day, recognizing Colonel R.S. McLaughlin and his contributions to the city.

Residents planning to visit a municipal building, use a recreation centre or place waste at the curb should review the temporary schedule before heading out.

Customer service representatives will be available before the holiday on Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can still use online municipal services during the closure, but requests may not be reviewed until offices reopen.

Waste Collection Delayed by One Day

There will be no residential waste collection in Oshawa on the Civic Holiday. All collections scheduled during the week will take place one day later than usual.

Monday routes will be collected Tuesday, and the delay will continue through the remainder of the week. Households with a normal Friday collection should place their waste at the curb for Saturday pickup.

The City advises residents to have their materials outside no later than 7 a.m. on the revised collection day. Regular collection schedules will return during the week beginning August 10. Residents can confirm their dates using the Durham Region Waste app or Oshawa’s online collection calendar.

Oshawa Civic Holiday Hours for Recreation

The Civic Recreation Complex and Delpark Homes Centre will both be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 3.

All other City recreation facilities will be closed, and registered recreation programs normally scheduled for Monday will be cancelled.

Camp Samac Outdoor Pool will operate from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Public swim periods are scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m., 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Rotary Park Outdoor Pool will be open from 1 to 7:30 p.m. A lane and leisure swim will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m., followed by all-ages fun swims from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview Park Beach will have lifeguard supervision from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., weather permitting. Pool and beach schedules may change because of severe or unsuitable weather, so visitors should check City updates before leaving home.

Libraries and Regional Services

Oshawa Public Libraries lists its branches as closed all day on August 3. That includes the McLaughlin, Delpark Homes Centre, John Aker Northview and Jess Hann branches.

Several Durham Region services will also be unavailable. The Ontario Works office in Oshawa, the Oral Health Clinic and the Adult Day Program at Hillsdale Estates will be closed.

Durham Region Transit will operate weekend service. The DRT customer-service call centre and the customer-service desk at 110 Westney Road South in Ajax will be closed, while the On Demand call centre will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Some Shopping Remains Available

Oshawa Centre lists Civic Holiday shopping hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Individual retailers, restaurants and other businesses may follow different schedules, so customers should confirm hours directly before travelling.

The most important Oshawa Civic Holiday hours changes are the closure of City Hall and public libraries, delayed waste collection and reduced recreation schedules. Residents using pools, the beach or transit should check for same-day updates because weather and operational conditions could result in further changes.
