Committee members provide valuable feedback on accessibility planning and help identify opportunities to remove barriers that may affect individuals with disabilities. Their work contributes to creating more inclusive communities where all residents can participate fully in daily life.

Meetings of the Accessibility Advisory Committee often include discussions on accessibility improvements, policy updates, infrastructure projects, community programs, and initiatives designed to enhance access for residents and visitors. Recommendations made by the committee can help shape future municipal planning and decision-making processes.

The committee supports Durham Region’s ongoing commitment to meeting the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and advancing accessibility standards throughout Regional services and facilities.

Residents interested in the committee’s work can review the official meeting agenda, which has been made available through Durham Region. The agenda outlines topics scheduled for discussion and provides insight into current accessibility initiatives being considered by the committee.

Accessibility remains a key priority for municipalities across Ontario as communities continue working to eliminate physical, technological, informational, and communication barriers. Advisory committees such as the AAC help ensure that the voices and experiences of people with disabilities are represented in municipal planning and policy development.

By bringing together community members, advocates, and municipal representatives, the committee helps foster collaboration and awareness regarding accessibility needs across Durham Region.

The June 23 meeting provides another opportunity for the committee to review ongoing projects and discuss strategies that support inclusive community development. Topics may include accessibility improvements within public facilities, transportation considerations, digital accessibility, and broader initiatives designed to improve quality of life for residents with disabilities.

Durham Region continues to emphasize the importance of accessibility in all aspects of public service delivery. Through advisory committees and community engagement efforts, the Region works to ensure that services and infrastructure remain accessible to everyone.

Residents seeking additional information about the Accessibility Advisory Committee or upcoming meetings are encouraged to visit Durham Region’s official website, where agendas, reports, and accessibility resources are available.

The meeting will take place in Council Chambers at Regional Headquarters in Whitby beginning at 1 p.m. on June 23, 2026.
