Scugog Township is set to receive more than $5.5 million over the next five years through a renewed municipal service funding agreement connected to the Great Blue Heron Casino. The Scugog Casino Revenue Agreement Secures $5.5 Million arrangement was achieved following discussions involving township officials, the Rural Ontario Municipal Association, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), and Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, Stan Cho. Township leaders say the funding will help support local services and infrastructure projects over the coming years.

Although Great Blue Heron Casino is located on the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Scugog Township provides a range of municipal services that support casino operations. According to township officials, Scugog received approximately $1.106 million in casino-related funding during 2025. Under the renewed agreement, annual payments are expected to remain around $1.1 million per year while also increasing with inflation. Scugog Chief Administrative Officer Warren Mar credited ongoing advocacy efforts for helping secure the agreement. He noted that discussions with provincial officials and OLG representatives were instrumental in extending the funding arrangement. The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, which officially hosts Great Blue Heron Casino, received more than $2.5 million during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Since the casino opened in 2000, the First Nation has received tens of millions of dollars through OLG revenue-sharing programs.

The Scugog Casino Revenue Agreement Secures $5.5 Million funding package is expected to be formally ratified by township council. Once approved, the agreement will provide stable revenue through 2031 while helping support municipal services, infrastructure improvements, and community development initiatives.
