Creative residents are invited to explore their artistic side during the Feathered Flair Clay Earring Workshop at Pickering Museum Village on June 7.

The hands-on workshop offers participants the opportunity to design and create their own bird-themed polymer clay earrings while drawing inspiration from the museum’s popular clay birds exhibit. Hosted at Pickering Museum Village, the event combines creativity, craftsmanship, and local culture in a unique experience suitable for a variety of skill levels.

Before beginning their projects, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the museum’s clay birds exhibit for inspiration. The exhibit showcases artistic interpretations of birds and provides creative ideas that participants can incorporate into their own handmade jewelry pieces.

Throughout the workshop, museum staff will guide participants through the creative process, helping them transform raw materials into wearable works of art. The session encourages creativity while introducing participants to techniques commonly used in polymer clay jewelry making.

Polymer clay has become increasingly popular among jewelry makers due to its versatility, durability, and ability to capture intricate details. Artists can create a wide variety of colours, textures, and patterns, making it an ideal medium for personalized accessories.

The Feathered Flair workshop also provides an opportunity for participants to connect with fellow makers and explore a creative hobby in a welcoming environment. Community workshops like this continue to play an important role in supporting arts and cultural programming across Durham Region.

Pickering Museum Village regularly hosts educational and creative programs designed to engage residents of all ages. The museum combines local history with interactive experiences that encourage learning through hands-on participation.

Located on Concession Road 6, the museum offers a unique setting where visitors can explore heritage buildings, exhibits, and special events throughout the year. Programs such as the Feathered Flair workshop help introduce new audiences to the museum while supporting local arts and culture initiatives.

Organizers say the workshop is ideal for anyone looking to learn a new skill, create a handmade accessory, or spend a creative morning in a historic setting. Participants will leave with custom earrings and new knowledge they can apply to future crafting projects.

As interest in handmade jewelry and artisan crafts continues to grow, workshops like Feathered Flair provide valuable opportunities for residents to explore their creativity while enjoying a fun and social experience.

The June 7 event is expected to attract craft enthusiasts, bird lovers, and anyone interested in creating unique accessories inspired by nature.
