The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has revoked the licences of 66 driving schools across the province after determining they failed to comply with provincial regulations and operating standards.

According to an updated list released by the MTO, the affected schools are no longer permitted to operate in Ontario. Many of the closures involve driving schools located in Toronto, Brampton, and Mississauga, though other regions are also affected. Some of the licences were revoked as far back as 2007.

The ministry stated that government-approved driving schools are regularly audited and investigated based on complaints. Schools found in violation of legislation or program guidelines may face sanctions, including permanent licence revocation.

While specific reasons for each closure were not disclosed, the action follows ongoing concerns about fraudulent practices in the driving education industry. These include allegations of guaranteed licences, certification without proper training hours, altered records, and payments made without completing required road tests.

The MTO has advised prospective students to verify that driving schools are officially approved before enrolling, warning that fraudulent operators may put public safety at risk.
