A man already in custody on a second-degree murder charge in Peterborough is expected to be formally charged in connection with a separate homicide in Oshawa in the coming days, according to Durham Regional Police.
Michael Waterman, 44, surrendered to police on Boxing Day after officers with the Peterborough Police Emergency Response Unit became aware he was in the city. Police attended a residence near Dalhousie Street and Aylmer Street at approximately 3 p.m., where Waterman exited the home and surrendered without incident.
Waterman remains in custody and made his first court appearance in Peterborough over the weekend in relation to the December 6 homicide in that city.
Durham Regional Police issued a warrant for Waterman’s arrest following the December 23 stabbing death of Jeremy Russell, 44, in Oshawa. Russell was found suffering from multiple stab wounds outside a residence on Park Road, and later died of his injuries. His death marked the ninth homicide in Durham Region in 2025.
Police have confirmed that Nicholas Robbins, 33, was arrested earlier and charged with second-degree murder in the Oshawa case.
Durham police say charges against Waterman related to the Oshawa homicide are expected to be laid “in the coming days.”
All allegations have not yet been proven in court.
