A snow squall watch in northern Durham has been issued by Environment Canada, warning residents of rapidly changing winter conditions and potentially hazardous travel.
The weather agency says a cold front moving through the region Tuesday afternoon could trigger short-lived but intense snow squalls. Communities in Uxbridge and Beaverton are among those affected.
According to the alert, snow squalls may bring up to five centimetres of snow, along with gusty winds that could suddenly reduce visibility to near zero in some areas.
“Snow squalls are expected to develop along or ahead of the advancing front,” the advisory said, noting that conditions may deteriorate quickly.
Environment Canada warns that travel could become hazardous, particularly during periods of intense snowfall and blowing snow. Drivers are advised to be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and possible disruptions.
An earlier weather alert for southern Durham Region has since ended. Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and weather updates through Environment Canada as conditions evolve.
