Durham Regional Police have charged a suspended driver in Durham Region following multiple traffic enforcement incidents across Clarington, Oshawa, and Whitby.
Last weekend, officers from DRPS East Division stopped a vehicle travelling 79 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone at Taunton Road and Enfield Road in the Municipality of Clarington. Police determined the driver was suspended twice, resulting in a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
In a separate incident, officers stopped a driver at Harmony Road North and Taunton Road East in Oshawa for using a cell phone while driving in a high-collision area. Police said the driver faces a $615 fine upon conviction, three demerit points, and a three-day licence suspension for a first offence.
Meanwhile, DRPS also advised of a road closure in Whitby due to a collision investigation. Thickson Road North was closed in both directions between Crawforth Street and Dundas Street, with motorists asked to use alternate routes.
Police continue to remind drivers that speeding, distracted driving, and driving while suspended pose serious risks to public safety.
