Durham police are asking for help identifying a man sought in connection with Oshawa and Orono package thefts reported at two pickup locations in August.
Police said the first incident happened at about 3:05 p.m. on August 4 at MedPlus Pharmacy, 111 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa. An unknown man allegedly took a package that had been shipped to a customer and left for pickup.
Second package taken in Orono
Investigators believe the same man went to the Orono General Store, 5331 Main Street, at about 5 p.m. on August 27. Police allege he used a fraudulent driver’s licence to collect a package. The customer discovered it was missing when they later arrived at the store.
The Durham Regional Police Service describes the person sought as a White man approximately 25 years old and five feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build, short black hair, a black moustache and a goatee. Police said he wore a black baseball hat and a white shirt.
The description and allegations have not been tested in court. Police have not announced charges and have not identified the person shown in images attached to the official release.
Police seek video and information
Anyone with cellphone, dash-camera or surveillance footage, or other information about the incidents, is asked to contact Detective Constable Cauley of the Central East Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520, extension 1705.
Anonymous information can be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through its website. Police said tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
The police notice was released September 23. Although the incidents occurred weeks earlier, the appeal is current because investigators are now seeking public assistance.
