An Oshawa house fire early Tuesday morning has left one resident unaccounted for after extensive damage made it difficult for emergency crews to search the home.
Firefighters responded to a blaze on Bloor Street, east of Simcoe Street, where the fire caused significant structural damage. As of early afternoon, Bloor Street remained closed in both directions, while crews continued to extinguish hot spots and assess the scene. The nearby Highway 401 ramp remains accessible, though police are urging motorists to avoid the area.
Three people from the home were transported to hospital in stable condition. Fire officials said all three individuals were already outside the residence when crews arrived.
It remains unclear whether the missing resident managed to escape the fire or was trapped inside the home. Investigators believe the fire originated in the basement, though the cause has not yet been determined.
A media officer is expected to attend the scene at 1:30 p.m. to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
