Durham Regional Police are intensifying their search for two unidentified suspects following a violent weekend shooting that spanned across two separate locations in Oshawa. The Oshawa Court Street shooting investigation began at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, when dozens of emergency calls reported rapid gunfire in a residential area just south of the downtown core. Officers arriving at the scene on Court Street and nearby Emma Street found evidence of a significant exchange of fire, though the victims had already fled the immediate area.
The scale of the violence became clearer shortly after the initial calls when a male victim arrived at Lakeridge Health Oshawa suffering from a gunshot wound. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to a Toronto-area trauma center. Simultaneously, the Oshawa Court Street shooting investigation expanded to the city’s east end after a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and shattered windows was discovered parked near the intersection of Harmony Road and King Street. Inside a nearby residence, officers located a second man suffering from a gunshot wound. Both victims are currently in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
The DRPS Drone Unit was deployed to assist tactical officers in conducting an extensive grid search of both neighborhoods for ballistic evidence. Preliminary findings suggest that the victims were targeted while they were inside a vehicle. Police are now searching for two male suspects who allegedly opened fire on the car before fleeing the scene. Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted incident and do not believe there is a broader threat to the general public, though the brazen daytime nature of the attack has left residents in both the Court Street and Harmony Road areas on edge.
Detectives are currently reviewing hours of footage and have issued a public appeal for any additional digital evidence. They are specifically looking for cellphone, dashcam, or home surveillance video captured between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in the vicinity of Court Street, Bruce Street, and the Harmony and King corridor. The Oshawa Court Street shooting investigation is being led by the Central East Criminal Investigations Branch, which is working to determine the motive behind the double shooting and whether it is connected to other recent criminal activity in the region.
As the search for the two suspects continues, local leaders are calling for increased community cooperation to curb the recent spike in local firearm offenses. “This level of violence is unacceptable in our residential streets,” noted one community advocate. Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information regarding the vehicle involved is urged to contact Detective Constable Pike or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Those who provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward as the region works to bring those responsible to justice.
