The Oshawa Donor Centre is encouraging residents to donate blood during the holiday season as Canadian Blood Services reports a decline in donations this time of year.
Spokesperson Debbi Barfoot explained that blood and blood products are perishable, with whole blood lasting 42 days and platelets only seven days, making timely donations crucial.
“People get busy and schedules change during the last weeks of December,” Barfoot said, urging others to step up and donate. She added that giving blood is a meaningful way to give back over the holidays, and many first-time donors visit with friends or family.
The Oshawa Donor Centre, located at 1304 Harmony Road, is accepting appointments on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day to ensure blood supply needs are met.
