Residents in northern Durham Region are being warned of hazardous winter conditions as North Durham snow squalls are expected to impact the area throughout Friday.
Environment Canada says snow squalls will move through Uxbridge, Brock, Scugog and Clarington, with total snowfall amounts forecast between 10 and 15 centimetres. Periods of heavy snow and blowing snow are expected to significantly reduce visibility.
Strong wind gusts reaching 50 km/h are also forecast, contributing to whiteout-like conditions in open areas. Environment Canada said the snow squalls are expected to weaken by Friday evening.
Travel conditions may become hazardous, with snow-covered roads and sidewalks making navigation difficult. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Environment Canada advises residents to prepare for deteriorating visibility and difficult travel throughout the day as North Durham snow squalls move through the region.
