A section of eastbound Highway 401 in Pickering was closed Wednesday morning after two crashes involving a transport truck.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that all eastbound express lanes between Whites and Brock roads are blocked. Traffic is being diverted to the eastbound collector lanes while emergency responders manage the scene.
According to police, an initial collision occurred between a transport truck and a passenger vehicle, which then led to a secondary crash involving the truck and another car. The truck driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The OPP issued a public advisory around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 24, urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
