A 44-year-old garbage truck driver has died following a serious rollover crash on Highway 401 in Pickering, prompting a lengthy closure of the westbound collector lanes as investigators work to determine what happened.
The fatal collision occurred early Sunday morning near Whites Road in Pickering. Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a rollover involving a garbage truck at approximately 7 a.m. Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and found the driver had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
The driver, identified as a resident of North York, was transported to hospital with critical injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead.
