Durham Weather Aug. 5 is expected to bring a warm and humid day across Oshawa and the rest of Durham Region, with patches of morning fog followed by sunshine and temperatures that could feel as high as 35 C.

Environment Canada forecasts a daytime high of about 29 C, but humidity will make it feel significantly warmer. Residents should also expect a very high UV index of 9, making sun protection important for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Fog possible during the morning

The day will begin mainly sunny, although patches of fog may develop or linger in parts of Durham Region during the morning commute.

Drivers should remain alert if visibility is reduced, particularly on highways and rural roads where localized fog can form quickly. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use appropriate headlights and leave extra space between vehicles if fog is encountered.

While widespread rainfall is not expected in Durham Region on Wednesday morning, some parts of southern Ontario may experience isolated showers.

Hot and humid afternoon

By the afternoon, temperatures are expected to reach around 29 C in Oshawa and surrounding communities.

Humidity will push the humidex to approximately 35 C, creating conditions that feel considerably hotter than the actual air temperature.

Residents planning outdoor activities should stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas whenever possible.

Young children, older adults and people with underlying health conditions are generally more sensitive to prolonged heat and humidity.

The UV index will reach 9, which Environment Canada classifies as very high. Sunscreen, hats and protective clothing are recommended during the strongest sunshine hours.

Comfortable evening expected

Conditions are expected to improve after sunset as temperatures gradually fall.

Wednesday night should remain clear, with overnight lows near 17 C to 18 C, providing more comfortable sleeping conditions after the warm afternoon.

Thursday could bring showers

Looking ahead, the forecast suggests increasing cloud cover on Thursday with a 60 per cent chance of showers during the day.

Temperatures are expected to remain warm, reaching approximately 28 C before humidity is taken into account.

Additional showers may continue into Thursday night, with temperatures dropping to around 17 C.

Residents planning outdoor work, sporting events or travel later in the week may wish to monitor updated forecasts in case rain probabilities increase.

Stay weather aware

Although Durham Weather Aug. 5 is not expected to produce severe weather, the combination of morning fog, high humidity and strong UV levels means residents should prepare for changing conditions throughout the day.

Checking the latest Environment Canada forecast before travelling or spending extended periods outdoors is recommended, particularly as weather conditions can change quickly during the summer months.

By taking simple precautions such as staying hydrated, protecting yourself from the sun and using extra caution if morning fog develops, residents can safely enjoy another warm summer day across Durham Region.
