Durham Travel Cuba sales have fallen sharply, according to figures the Courtice agency’s president shared with The Canadian Press, as customers look elsewhere for winter holidays.
John Wood said the business sold more than $389,000 in Cuba trips in 2025, compared with $24,000 so far in 2026. The figures describe one agency’s sales, not the entire Durham Region travel market, and compare a full year with a year still underway.
Wood also reported stronger Dominican Republic sales: about $1 million last year and nearly $1.3 million so far this year. He told the news agency that some customers who previously took several affordable Cuba holidays annually could no longer travel in the same way.
The locally reported shift puts a Courtice business at the centre of a wider change in Canadian winter travel. The Canadian Press report was first published November 7 and carried by Durham Radio News on November 8.
Durham Travel’s own website confirms its Courtice location and lists Wood among its travel professionals. The sales totals above are attributed to Wood’s interview; they are not independently audited regional statistics.
