Durham softball silver came after a seventh-inning comeback fell just short in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association final against St. Clair on Saturday, October 24.

The Oshawa-based Lords lost 6-5 in Windsor. St. Clair College’s October 26 account confirms Durham had beaten Humber 1-0 earlier that day to reach the championship game.

Durham opened a 2-0 lead before the hosts moved ahead 4-2. Two Lords home runs tied the game in the third inning, but St. Clair restored its lead at 5-4.

A Durham double and single levelled the score in the seventh. In the bottom half, Zahnyah Jackson tripled and Chloe Cole singled her home, ending the game.

The Durham softball silver medal is a provincial result, distinct from the Lords’ fourth-place national finish earlier in October. It also supersedes the earlier provincial preview describing Durham’s next matchup as the bronze-medal game.

St. Clair’s winning run prevented Durham from forcing another game under the tournament’s double-knockout format.
