Durham Region Arson And Gunfire Incidents are escalating across Oshawa, Whitby, Brooklin and Courtice, leaving residents concerned and police investigating a possible connection to organized biker activity.

Brooklin residents woke early Sunday morning to the smell of smoke after a home on Pluto Way caught fire. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect around 4 a.m. entering the residence carrying a gas can shortly before the blaze erupted. Whitby Fire crews responded quickly and brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

Just one day earlier, a vacant house on Pine Avenue in Oshawa was also set ablaze. Fire crews managed to extinguish the flames, and no injuries were reported in that incident either.

These fires are among more than half a dozen Durham Region Arson And Gunfire Incidents reported since the beginning of the year. Several of the cases are believed to be linked to tensions between rival motorcycle gangs operating in the region.

Last Thursday, two teenagers were arrested after police allege they attempted to set fire to Harley G’s clothing and tattoo shop on Simcoe Street in downtown Oshawa. The shop is owned by Harley Guindon, who has publicly stated his efforts to revive the Satan’s Choice motorcycle club.

Durham Regional Police responded to reports of an armed person at the location just after 4 a.m. Officers say two suspects arrived in a black Honda. One allegedly smashed the storefront glass with a hammer while the other attempted to ignite an incendiary device. Both suspects were arrested shortly after near Ritson Road and King Street.

A 16 year old from Scugog and a 16 year old from Toronto have been charged with arson, possession of incendiary materials, disguise with intent and possession of stolen property. Police confirmed both were wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of arrest.

The same Oshawa business had previously experienced a suspicious fire on February 15. Bullet holes were also observed in the front window days before the latest attempted arson. Investigators have not confirmed whether those incidents are connected.

Other recent Durham Region Arson And Gunfire Incidents include a residential explosion on February 21 near Gibbons Street and Annapolis Avenue in Oshawa. Officers arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported seeing individuals fleeing the scene, though police have not officially classified the explosion as suspicious.

On February 3, police searched for three suspects after a home near Richmond Street and Ritson Road was deliberately set on fire. One man was transported to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.

Authorities are asking residents to report any suspicious activity as investigations continue. Police have not formally confirmed a biker war but acknowledge ongoing tensions may be contributing to the pattern of incidents.

Durham Regional Police continue to monitor the situation closely as the community seeks answers and reassurance.
