Durham police Services Board appointment has been confirmed following an announcement from Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor.
The Durham Regional Police Services Board has welcomed John Ecker, who has been officially appointed for a two-year term to help oversee policing services across Durham Region.
“I welcome the honour to serve the community through this Durham police Services Board appointment,” said Ecker. “I look forward to supporting the board’s responsibility to ensure policing earns the trust and confidence of Durham residents.”
Board Chair Shaun Collier praised the appointment, noting that Ecker brings extensive leadership and governance experience that will strengthen the board’s work.
“Mr. Ecker has strong community ties and proven governance expertise that will positively support the Durham police Services Board appointment and its mission of public safety,” Collier said.
Ecker is a semi-retired communications, marketing, branding and fundraising executive with decades of senior leadership experience. Most recently, he held executive roles with the Archdiocese of Toronto and served as Program and Production Lead during Pope Francis’ 2022 visit to Iqaluit, work that earned him a Papal Medal.
He has also served as a vice president at Indspire, and held director-level roles with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, Toronto Board of Trade, and ECHO: Improving Women’s Health in Ontario.
Currently, Ecker serves as Chair of the Ontario Heritage Trust, is a Governor on the Durham College Board, and continues to contribute to cultural and public institutions across the province.
The Durham police Services Board appointment reinforces provincial and regional collaboration aimed at maintaining accountability, transparency, and community trust in policing.
