Durham July 22 Weather Includes Brief Shower Risk

Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and southern Clarington are included in Environment Canada’s forecast area for Pickering, Oshawa and southern Durham Region.

The official forecast issued at 11 a.m. calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers early Wednesday afternoon. Northwest winds are expected to reach 30 km/h, with gusts up to 50 km/h.

The daytime high will be approximately 22 C, while the UV index is forecast to reach seven, which Environment Canada classifies as high.

At Oshawa Executive Airport, conditions were cloudy at 11 a.m., with a temperature of 17.3 C. Winds were blowing from the west-northwest at 18 km/h and gusting to 39 km/h.

The chance of rain is expected to decrease later in the afternoon. Residents may still encounter short periods of rainfall, particularly during the early afternoon, but widespread or prolonged rain is not currently forecast.

Cooler Conditions Expected in Northern Durham

Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock are included in Environment Canada’s northern Durham forecast area.

Those communities also have a 30 per cent chance of showers early Wednesday afternoon. Northwest winds could reach 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h, but the daytime high is expected to remain near 20 C.

The UV index is forecast to reach seven, meaning sun protection may still be necessary during brighter periods despite the cloud cover.

The strong northwest wind could make outdoor conditions feel cooler than the reported temperature. Residents should secure lightweight outdoor objects, temporary signs and unsecured patio items that could be moved by stronger gusts.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians may also encounter sudden crosswinds in open areas, on bridges and along waterfront routes.

Skies Expected to Clear Wednesday Night

Southern Durham should become partly cloudy Wednesday evening before skies clear near midnight. Northwest winds of approximately 20 km/h are expected to become light later in the evening, with an overnight low near 13 C.

Northern Durham will follow a similar pattern, with skies clearing near midnight and temperatures falling to approximately 12 C.

The cooler night will provide a noticeable change from the humid and stormy conditions experienced earlier in the week.

Sunshine Returns Thursday and Friday

Thursday is forecast to be sunny across southern Durham, with a high of 25 C and a humidex near 29. Northern Durham should be mainly sunny with a high of approximately 23 C.

Friday is also expected to remain sunny in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and southern Clarington, with temperatures reaching approximately 26 C.

Showers may return during the weekend. Environment Canada currently forecasts a 30 per cent chance of showers Saturday and a 40 per cent chance Sunday in southern Durham, although those longer-range details may change.

Residents should check the latest forecast before planning outdoor events, waterfront visits or extended travel. The Durham July 22 weather forecast should be updated if Environment Canada changes the shower probability, wind forecast or alert status.
