A Durham IPV awareness campaign will share information throughout November to help residents recognize intimate partner violence and find available support.
Durham Regional Police announced the month-long information effort in a November 4 social-media post marking Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month.
Recognizing harm and finding resources
The service says its messages will explain signs of intimate partner violence, what it can look like and the resources available to people experiencing it.
The official resource page describes IPV as harm caused by a current or former intimate partner or spouse. It includes separate sections on recognizing abuse, reporting concerns and safety planning.
The page also lists local shelters, crisis services and other community resources. These include Bethesda House, The Denise House, Herizon House, Y’s Wish Shelter and Victim Services of Durham Region.
Use the official support directory
Residents can use the police service’s directory below to locate the appropriate service and its current contact information. Anyone facing an immediate emergency should call 911.
The announcement is about public information and access to help. It does not introduce a new criminal investigation, report a local case total or announce a new shelter opening.
This Durham IPV awareness update is distinct from the October community awareness walk and the separate Crime Prevention Week information booth in Pickering. Its focus is the November information campaign and the ongoing official support directory.
