Durham Highway Closures July 24 Affect Major Routes drivers travelling through Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington and other parts of the region.
Several overnight lane restrictions and short-duration closures are scheduled on provincial highways beginning Friday evening, July 24, 2026.
The most significant work includes lane closures and brief traffic stoppages on Highway 401 in Oshawa, along with continuing restrictions on Highway 407 ETR, Highway 412, Highway 7, Highway 7/12 and Highway 35/115.
Drivers should expect delays, reduce their speed in construction zones and consider alternate routes when possible.
Highway 401 Closures in Oshawa
Highway 401 will be one of the most heavily affected routes during the Durham highway closures July 24.
Two alternating eastbound lanes are scheduled to close between Ritson Road and Harmony Road in Oshawa from 10 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday.
On the westbound side, two alternating lanes between Harmony Road and Ritson Road are expected to close from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m.
An Ontario Provincial Police-assisted full closure lasting approximately 15 minutes is also scheduled on Highway 401 westbound between Harmony Road and Ritson Road. The short stoppage may occur during the overnight work period.
Longer-term alternating lane restrictions also remain in place between Highway 35/115 in Clarington and Harmony Road in Oshawa.
Highway 407 and Highway 412 Restrictions
Drivers using Highway 407 ETR should expect continuing overnight restrictions in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Clarington.
One alternating westbound lane is scheduled to close between Simcoe Street in Oshawa and Thickson Road in Whitby until Saturday morning.
Additional work is planned near Harmony Road North in Oshawa and between Highway 35/115 and Darlington-Clarke Townline in Clarington.
On Highway 412, alternating lane closures continue in both directions between Highway 401 and Highway 407 in Whitby.
Northern Durham Roadwork
Roadwork also affects several routes in northern Durham Region.
Highway 7 and Highway 7/12 have overnight right-lane closures between Whitby and Brock Township.
Highway 7A eastbound between Highway 7/12 and Nesbitt Line Road near Port Perry is also affected by an overnight right-lane closure.
Highway 12 has continuing restrictions between Whitby and Brock, while Highway 35/115 work continues in Clarington.

Some projects listed in the provincial schedule begin after July 24, including work planned for July 26, July 27, late July and early August.
Motorists should confirm the latest start times, end times and lane restrictions through Ontario 511 before beginning their trip.
Schedules may change because of weather, construction progress or emergency road conditions.
