Consultant Starts Engagement with PPAS on Port Perry Fairgrounds Vision

Discussions are now underway between the Port Perry Agricultural Society (PPAS) and Darwin Logic, the consultant appointed to lead the Port Perry Fairgrounds visioning process, according to the Township of Scugog.

The township confirmed that Darwin Logic — operating as Darwin Pivot — has begun conversations with PPAS and will continue engagement throughout the duration of the project. In addition, targeted discussions with seniors and youth are planned to ensure perspectives from different generations are captured.

In September, Scugog council awarded the visioning contract to Darwin Logic Inc. for $92,553, excluding HST. The appointment has sparked criticism from some community activists who argue that PPAS should remain the primary manager of the fairgrounds.

Following the first phase of engagement, the township said feedback will be analyzed and presented to council in the form of an interim update. Council will then determine the next steps, including whether additional rounds of community consultation are needed to explore long-term directions for the fairgrounds.

The initiative, branded “Scugog — Your Voice, Your Fairgrounds,” is described as a community-led process focused on understanding what the fairgrounds mean to residents and identifying the values that should guide their future.

A community survey is currently open, with registration required, and will remain available until January 26. The township emphasized that no plans or proposals have been developed at this stage.

Earlier in the fall, informal pop-up sessions were held across the township to serve as early listening opportunities. Scugog is also seeking “community connectors” — volunteers who help broaden the conversation by gathering feedback through everyday interactions within neighbourhoods, social groups, cultural communities, and workplaces — to ensure a wide range of voices are represented
