Clarington is marking the Allysha Chapman retirement from international soccer by recognizing the Courtice-raised defender’s accomplishments with Canada’s national team.
Mayor Adrian Foster issued a statement on October 13 praising Chapman after 100 appearances for Canada, Olympic medals and multiple FIFA Women’s World Cup campaigns.
From Courtice to the national team
Foster described Chapman as a hometown soccer hero whose confidence, tenacity and teamwork inspired young players in Clarington.
The mayor said local fans had watched the Courtice defender win Olympic medals and compete on the sport’s largest international stage. His statement thanked Chapman for her career and wished her well following her international retirement.
Chapman’s century of appearances places her among a select group of Canadian players to reach the 100-game milestone. Her international career included Canada’s rise into the top tier of women’s soccer and major tournament success.
Local legacy highlighted
The municipal statement focused on Chapman’s influence beyond match results. Foster said children in Clarington fell in love with soccer while watching her play and carried lessons about teamwork into the community.
The announcement concerns her retirement from international soccer. It does not announce the end of every professional or community role she may hold.
