An 87-year-old woman is facing serious criminal charges following a violent incident at a residence in Ajax that left another woman fighting for her life. On the evening of Thursday, April 16, 2026, Durham Regional Police responded to an assist ambulance call at a home located in the area of Keeble Crescent and Bennett Avenue. Upon arrival at approximately 6:35 p.m., emergency responders discovered a female victim suffering from what were described as “traumatic” injuries. The severity of the wounds required the victim to be rushed immediately to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where she was initially listed in critical, life-threatening condition.

Following intensive medical care, officials confirmed on Friday that the victim’s status has been upgraded to serious but stable. Investigators from the Durham Regional Police Service’s West Division have determined that the victim was assaulted earlier on Thursday by another resident of the home. The suspect, a senior citizen from the local community, was taken into custody by officers without incident. This Ajax aggravated assault case has shocked the quiet neighborhood, as police rarely encounter such severe allegations involving individuals of this age group.

The 87-year-old accused has been officially charged with aggravated assault and was held pending a bail hearing. In accordance with privacy protocols intended to safeguard the victim, the Durham Regional Police Service is withholding the identity of the accused woman. This measure is commonly taken in domestic or residential settings where releasing the name of the perpetrator would directly identify the complainant. While the specific nature of the relationship between the two women has not been disclosed, police have clarified that both were residents of the same household where the traumatic injuries occurred.

The West Division Criminal Investigations Branch is currently leading the ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding the Ajax aggravated assault. Detective Constable Philipp is heading the case and is appealing to anyone who may have relevant information or who may have been in the vicinity of Keeble Crescent on Thursday afternoon to come forward. Police are also looking for any potential witnesses who might have noticed unusual activity at the residence prior to the arrival of the paramedics and officers at 6:30 p.m.

Residents of Ajax and the broader Durham Region who wish to provide information anonymously can do so by contacting Durham Regional Crime Stoppers. Those who provide tips that lead to a successful prosecution may be eligible for a cash reward. As the 87-year-old woman awaits her next court appearance, the community remains focused on the recovery of the victim. This Ajax aggravated assault serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictability of residential violence and the critical role of rapid emergency response in saving lives during traumatic events.
