Drivers across the Greater Toronto Area, including parts of Durham Region, could soon feel the impact of a gas price increase expected across Toronto and Durham Region as fuel prices rise due to international tensions in the Middle East.

Energy analysts say gasoline and diesel prices are set to climb significantly over the next several days, bringing higher costs for motorists across southern Ontario.

Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, told INsauga that gas prices in the Greater Toronto Area will increase by six cents per litre on Wednesday.

The increase will bring the price of regular gasoline to approximately $1.439 per litre across the GTA, including cities such as Toronto, Mississauga, Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and other parts of Durham Region.

Diesel prices are expected to rise even more sharply. McTeague said diesel could jump by 13 cents per litre, bringing prices to roughly $1.709 per litre. Some fuel stations may adjust their prices even earlier than Wednesday as markets react to global developments.

However, the increase is not expected to stop there.

Another round of fuel price hikes could occur as early as Thursday. McTeague predicts that gasoline prices could rise by an additional three cents per litre, pushing the cost of regular gas to around $1.469 per litre in the Greater Toronto Area.

Diesel prices may also continue climbing, increasing by another eight to ten cents per litre. This could bring diesel prices in the GTA to between $1.789 and $1.809 per litre.

The rising fuel costs are largely tied to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which can significantly affect global oil markets. Concerns over shipping routes, supply stability, and international energy production often cause sudden fluctuations in crude oil prices.

When global oil prices increase, the impact is often felt quickly at the pump in Canada, particularly in major urban regions such as the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding municipalities.

Higher fuel prices can have ripple effects across the economy, affecting transportation costs, delivery services, and consumer goods pricing. Businesses that rely heavily on transportation may see increased operating costs as diesel prices climb.

For drivers across Durham Region, including residents of Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, and Clarington, the increase could mean higher commuting expenses in the coming days.

Fuel analysts continue to monitor international developments that may influence energy markets. Any further disruptions or geopolitical tensions could push fuel prices even higher in the weeks ahead.

Motorists are advised to monitor fuel price updates and consider filling up before the increases take full effect.
