A Bowmanville stabbing early Friday morning led to a hold and secure being implemented at Bowmanville High School and Duke of Cambridge Public School while Durham Police conducted an investigation in the area.
The incident occurred at around 6:40 AM near Liberty Street North and Carlisle Avenue, where police responded to reports of an armed person. Authorities say a male victim was assaulted and stabbed by another male. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect was apprehended at the scene.
In a post on X, police warned residents of an ongoing police presence in Bowmanville as the investigation continued. Due to the proximity of the schools to the incident, Bowmanville High School and Duke of Cambridge Public School were placed in hold and secure protocols, though police confirmed there was no danger to students.
Durham Police stated, “Bowmanville High School and Duke of Cambridge Public School have been put into a hold and secure as a precaution, however, the schools are still operating as normal. This is an isolated incident and not related to the schools in any way.” The hold and secure measures were lifted shortly before 9:00 AM.
