The suds will be flowing at the Generals’ hockey game Friday night and the FireWolves lacrosse game Saturday after all parties confirmed the alcohol sales Oshawa Tribute Centre liquor license has been renewed and alcohol service can resume “immediately.”
An administrative error left patrons at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa thirsty last weekend after venue operators Oak View Group let their liquor license expire.
The error meant no alcohol sales at the arena for Oshawa Generals’ games on Friday and Sunday and the Big Air All-Stars Live show on Saturday.
Beer was served at the Hardy concert on Thursday, however, two days after the license had expired, according to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission website.
Oak View Group has the responsibility for obtaining and maintaining the liquor license on behalf of the city for the Tribute Centre, and a spokesperson confirmed it was an “administrative error” that led to the license lapse. “We apologize for the disruption in service.”
The city issued a news release Monday saying it had been informed of the administrative error, saying they anticipated the return of liquor sales in time for the next Generals home game on Friday against Peterborough.
A spokesperson for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission said Tuesday the license should be in good order in time for the arena’s next event.
“We’ve expedited the process and we don’t anticipate any issues that will prevent the new licence from being issued this week.”
Oak View followed later in the day with their response, confirming that “regular alcohol service will be available at the next event – the Oshawa Generals game on Friday, February 13.”
The hockey club, which earns a percentage of concession profits as part of their contract, chimed in last, saying all is well after the venue’s liquor license was renewed.
