Environment Canada has issued a Durham Region cold warning for Thursday night through Friday morning. The warning highlights dangerous wind chill values between -30°C and -35°C, posing a high risk for frostbite. Residents of Durham Region and surrounding areas, including the GTA and Windsor to Tobermory, are advised to cover up to protect themselves from the extreme cold.
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, particularly in these extreme cold conditions. If it’s too cold for people to stay outside, it’s also too cold for pets, according to Environment Canada’s warning. People in Durham Region and surrounding areas should monitor their outdoor activities and be cautious about prolonged exposure to the cold.
