The Town of Ajax has placed load limits on the Shoal Point Road Bridge, citing the bridge’s structural capacity and the need to protect public safety and preserve municipal infrastructure.
Effective October 30, 2026, at 12:00:01 a.m., the maximum gross vehicle weights for traffic crossing the bridge are 7 tonnes for CL1 vehicles, 13 tonnes for CL2 vehicles and 20 tonnes for CL3 vehicles.
The restrictions will remain in effect until October 29, 2031, at 11:59:59 p.m., or until the bridge is reconstructed, whichever comes first. The Town says its goal is to design and reconstruct the bridge by December 31, 2028.
Regulatory signage showing the load limits will be installed and maintained at the bridge approaches, and vehicles exceeding the posted limits must use an alternate route. The Town says the restrictions are intended to protect the bridge’s structural integrity, extend its service life and keep the travelling public safe.
