Whitby advisory committees and boards are recruiting approximately 100 volunteers for the upcoming term of Council, with applications due by 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2026.
The Town of Whitby’s October 28 notice identifies opportunities on 13 advisory committees and boards. Their work brings community perspectives and expertise to Council discussions on issues such as accessibility, local history and road safety.
No previous committee experience required
The town says residents do not need prior committee experience to apply. Applicants can bring subject-matter knowledge or an interest in helping improve the community.
The groups advise Council rather than replacing its decision-making role. People considering a position should review the available opportunities and the requirements of the committee or board that interests them.
The town’s official advisory-committee page provides details and the online application route. Applicants should use that page for current forms rather than assuming the same form or deadline applies to every municipal recruitment.
Appointments expected in January
Whitby’s new Council term begins November 16, 2026. Town staff will review applications and bring recommendations to Council, which is expected to appoint successful applicants in January 2027.
This recruitment concerns Whitby advisory committees and boards, not the separate Durham Region advisory-committee intake previously covered by All About Durham. The regional intake had a different deadline and different committees.
Questions about the town’s recruitment can be directed to the Town Clerk’s Office through the contact information in the official notice.
