The DCPIC Commissioning Mass brought Durham Catholic school council leaders and parent representatives together on October 28 to begin another year of supporting students and families.
The Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee hosted the annual gathering for new and returning Catholic School Council chairs and co-chairs, principals and the committee’s new parent representatives. The school board reported the event on October 29.
Mass and presentations
Father Jim Kelly presided over the Mass. Participants also heard greetings from Gerard Winn, identified in the announcement as Chief Executive Officer, and board chair Morgan Ste. Marie.
The programme included presentations on Shining Our Light, the board’s spiritual theme for the year. Other topics were the Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education and the Parents Reaching Out Grant, also called the PRO-Grant.
The announcement describes a welcoming and commissioning event, not a new funding award. It does not give a grant amount, application deadline or list of funded projects, so no such details are implied.
Connecting parents and schools
The committee said it looks forward to continuing its work with Catholic School Councils in support of DCDSB students and families. The DCPIC Commissioning Mass provided a common starting point for returning council leaders and people new to those roles.
Families interested in the committee can consult the board’s official DCPIC page for more information. The short event account does not identify a venue or attendance total.
