Lakeshore East weekend trains will run once an hour between Durham College Oshawa GO and Union Station on Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, as planned construction changes the usual service pattern.
GO Transit’s current construction notice confirms the two-day adjustment. Durham Radio News also reported the service change on October 29, advising passengers heading to Toronto to check departure times before travelling.
Longer route 88 connections
The temporary timetable also affects some people transferring between trains and GO bus route 88 at Durham College Oshawa GO.
For northbound trips toward Peterborough, GO says passengers connecting to buses leaving Oshawa GO at 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. will have a connection of approximately 45 minutes. That is about 30 minutes longer than usual.
Passengers making those connections from Union Station will need to take a train 30 minutes earlier than usual, according to the operator.
For southbound route 88 trips toward Oshawa, departures from Trent University at 12:04 p.m., 1:39 p.m., 3:09 p.m., 4:39 p.m. and 6:09 p.m. will have a 45-minute connection to Lakeshore East trains at Oshawa GO. GO again identifies that as roughly 30 minutes longer than normal.
Check each part of the journey
The notice directs passengers connecting with Durham Region Transit or the TTC to check those agencies’ service information as well. A change to the train timetable can affect how much time is available to transfer even where the local bus route itself has not changed.
The Lakeshore East weekend trains notice applies to October 31 and November 1. It should not be confused with separate construction dates listed for later weekends or with a complete suspension of train service.
GO says the work forms part of improvements intended to support faster and more frequent service. Construction schedules can be adjusted because of weather or other circumstances, so travellers should use the current trip planner before leaving.
Passengers combining this trip with another GO line should also check for work elsewhere in the network. The operator lists construction-related changes on other corridors during the same weekend; those are separate from the hourly Oshawa–Union arrangement.
