Hockey Night in Port Perry will return to Scugog Arena on November 21, bringing local players together with former NHL stars to raise money for Oak Ridges Hospice.
Darcy Tucker and Jeremy Roenick are among the players named in an October 22 DurhamRegion.com report. The hospice’s official events page also identifies the charity hockey event as one of its recurring fundraisers.
Game and ticket arrangements
Doors are scheduled to open at 4:30 p.m., with the game beginning at 6 p.m. General tickets are $35 and VIP tickets are $150, according to the newspaper’s interview with the hospice. General admission is free for children younger than 10.
The event offers more than the game itself. Plans include a family zone, raffles and an opportunity to meet hockey celebrities before the puck drops. VIP admission includes premium seating and a catered reception after the game, with silent auctions and a question-and-answer session.
Local players can raise funds for a roster place
The report says 22 player and goalie places are available. Participants must raise or donate at least $1,500, with places allocated on a first-come basis once the fundraising requirement is reached.
An additional national anthem singer opportunity has a $500 minimum fundraising requirement. Coaching, trainer and referee opportunities are also being offered through the organizer.
Lane Haugen of Oak Ridges Hospice told the newspaper the event gives local participants an opportunity to play with hockey celebrities while supporting care close to home.
Proceeds support the hospice
The newspaper reports that the previous sold-out event raised $106,000 and that this year’s target is $130,000. Those are the organizer’s reported results and goal, not a guarantee of this year’s proceeds.
Oak Ridges provides residential end-of-life care in Port Perry and support for residents and loved ones. The hospice says its care is delivered in a home-like setting, with medical, emotional and practical support.
Scugog council previously waived arena rental fees for the event. That earlier council action has already been reported; this update concerns the named hockey guests and current game, ticket and participant arrangements.
Residents planning to attend or fundraise should use the hospice’s official event links for registration, availability and any later changes.
