Drivers should expect several Durham highway closures overnight into Friday, October 2, as planned roadwork continues on major routes across the region.
The scheduled work affects sections of Highways 401, 407 ETR, 412, 7/12, 7A and 35/115. Closure times can change because of weather, construction progress or operational needs, so motorists should check Ontario 511 immediately before travelling.
Highway 401 work in Oshawa, Ajax and Whitby
Two alternating westbound lanes of Highway 401 between Harmony Road and Ritson Road in Oshawa are scheduled to close nightly until 5 a.m. October 2. Two alternating eastbound lanes between Ritson Road and Harmony Road are also listed as closed nightly until 6 a.m. October 2.
In Ajax, four alternating express lanes in each direction near Westney Road are scheduled for nightly closures into October 14. Farther west, one eastbound alternating lane between Brock Road in Pickering and Harwood Avenue in Ajax is listed for nightly work until October 7.
In Whitby, one right lane on the Highway 401 westbound off-ramp at Brock Street is scheduled to close from 11:30 p.m. October 1 until 5:30 a.m. October 2.
Closures on Highways 407, 412, 7/12 and 35/115
Highway 407 ETR ramp closures are scheduled overnight at Baldwin Street South and Lake Ridge Road in Whitby. An eastbound lane between Thickson Road in Whitby and Harmony Road North in Oshawa is also listed for daily work through October 2.
Alternating ramp closures at the Highway 412 truck inspection station in Whitby are scheduled nightly through October 2.
In north Durham, one westbound lane of Highway 7A between Queen Street and Highway 7/12 in Port Perry is scheduled to close nightly from 9 p.m. October 1 through 6 a.m. October 3. Daily lane restrictions also continue on Highway 7/12 between Scugog and Brock.
Clarington-area work includes daily lane restrictions on Highway 35/115 near Highway 35 and Fourth Road through October 2. A longer-running Highway 35 restriction between Boundary Road and Telecom Road in the Pontypool area is listed through December 23.
Drivers approaching any of these Durham highway closures should allow extra time, obey construction signs and use Ontario 511 for the latest confirmed conditions.
